How fast can your group walk 100M steps?
That is “100M” as in 100 million!
Last month was National Walking Month, so Albion College challenged itself to walk more than 100,000,000 steps from October 1 through October 31.
The original goal was to have 500 participants each walk at least 6,500 steps per day, for a total of at least 100,750,000 steps for the thirty-one days.
According to an article in BattleCreekEnquirer.com, Albion students and staff members participating in the challenge accumulated 100,944,461 steps.
Given that 651 people participated, that works out to almost exactly 5,002 steps per person per day for thirty-one days!
Although this is just over half of the 10,000 steps per day that are widely recommended for good health, this still represents quite an accomplishment, especially given that at least some of the participants very possibly were not multi-thousand-steps-per-day walkers before the challenge.
So congratulations, Albion! You are an inspiration to the rest of us.
